The Route:

Park at the Meelmore Lodge on Trassey Road (its £4 per day but is secure and monitored).

Exit the car park and follow  the path to the wall below Slieve Meelmore.  Cross the wall via the stile and turn right, this section of the route follows the Ulster Way.  When you reach the valley between Meelmore and Meelbeg cross the river and take the stone path on its right bank.  The path disappears about half way up the valley but keeping the river and low  wall on your left it is easy to navigate.   When the wall turns left follow  it until it reach's the Mourne wall below  the summit.

The Mourne wall can be used  as a guide along the summit of Meelmore then down to the Col between it and Bearnagh.  The climb up Bearnagh is steep and care is needed.  At times you need to move right and leave the wall to avoid some sheer cliffs.   From the Summit Tor on Bearnagh keep to the right of the wall and continue north to the North Tor.   Descend from the North Tor along a well worn tract to Hares Gap.  Take care to avoid the steep sections near the bottom.

At Hares Gap cross the Mourne Wall and descend to the Trassey Track, follow the track down to the Ulster way and this will take you back to the stile leading to Meelmore Lodge.
