The Route:

From the car park at the end of Trassey Road (in the valley between Meelmore and Meelbeg).

Head up the path from the car park.  Veer of the path  to your right and make a long but steady assent of Slieve Meelbeg keep to the ridge to avoid the steep slope to your left.  At the summit of Meelbeg you will find the Mourne wall, this will keep you company for most of the route.   From Meelbeg follow the wall to Meelmore.  The wall falls steeply from Meelmore and care should be taken in wet or icy conditions.   It is best to keep well right of the wall for the first part of the climb up Bearnagh and you may need to use your hands in some places.   From Bearnagh descend to Hares Gap and follow the steps up to Slievenaglogh.  If conditions are poor it is best to keep to the right of the wall when walking over Slieve Corragh and up Slieve Commedagh.  From Commedagh follow the wall down to the saddle, at this point you can either go straight down the Glen River trail to Newcastle or bag Donard to round of the day.

This walk takes in  5 of the the “Mourne 7s”  but is a much less  strenuous route.   However it  is 10 miles long with  an elevation gain of 4,363 ft so give yourself 6 to 7 hours to complete this.
